Remember...

We all know (I hope) the importance of wearing sunblock especially if we will be in the sun all day. Remember to put sunblock not only on your face but on your neck and chest  as these areas are also exposed to the UVA rays and are prone to hyper pigmentation. So love your neck and chest today by blocking it!

Rocking your Big Brows !

If you decide to rock a neutral look this season, please remember to rock your big brows. They are a statement all by themselves giving the face more character with a bit of edge. Prominent brows are the rage this season and will carry through to fall. If you are on the "thin" side when it comes to your brows you can build them up with your brow pencil, creating hair like strokes for a natural look. Set the brows with matte brow powder for longevity.

Two Toned Lip Trends !

                             photo: wire image/Mui Mui
The two toned lip trend from the 90's are back!!! So if you loved to wear your browns with a splash of gold in the center you are in for a treat. The "Ombre" lip trend  as it  is now called this season as seen from Mui Mui 2011 fall show case illustrates red lipstick with a hint of pink in the center to give the lip dimension. Here are some tips on how to follow the "Ombre" trend.

Find two contrasting colors that are in the same family, such as:

  • Red & Pink
  • Red & Orange
  • Orange & Pink
  • Purple & Pink
  • Purple & Red
  • Wine & Red
  • Burgundy & Red
To get the 3 D effect start out by applying the darker shade of lip color then in the center of the lips place the lighter shade for dimension. This look works best with Matte lipsticks, so remember to prep your lips so they will not be scaly by using a lip scrub. Click here for a great lip scrub recipe.

Eye Liner How To !

This season it's all about the liner and this helpful chart shows which brush works to get your liner detail down pat.

  1. For tight lining a flat brush works best as it allows for the product to be placed a close to the lash line as possible.
  2. To get that fine flick a bent liner brush works as it helps us to have more control and it honestly feels less awkward when lining.
  3. The famous cat eye can be created with an angle liner brush. The sharp angle helps to create that perfect cat eye edge that occurs at the end and it's flat bristles help keep the liner as close to the lash line as possible.

Get a Natural Flush!

Are you curious about how to get that natural looking flush? Well look no further as according to Hanna Martin Makeup Artist for Bobbi Brown says..

For a natural flush of colour, apply your blusher on the very top of the apples of your cheeks, and then blend it out over the rest of your cheekbone to soften the colour. Keeping the blusher high on your face makes cheeks look lifted.

Corals For Spring

As we draw closer to Spring, we are a step closer to indulging in the array of colors that this season represents. One color which will be blazing in the upcoming season are corals, from eyes to lips you can make your pick. If you are a bold fashionista you can go full force with the luscious corals which are extremely flattering. If you want to just do a hint of coral you can use a coral gloss or dab some coral lipstick on and apply your favorite gloss on top. Corals are great and are flattering for most skin types.

See which famous celeb is rocking her corals after the break...

Homemade Lash Remover!

Lashes are every woman's eye candy, we can amp up our whole look with a fab pair of falsies. You can transform your face with a dab of glue and a pair of strip lashes. At the end of the day when it is time to wind down we also want to cleanse and give our skin the ability to breathe. There are many lash removers on the market that I must say can be very toxic and also when applied they sting. On the request of a reader I decided to look into homemade lash removers which do the work of removing the lashes without all of the toxicity.

Homemade Lash Remover Recipe
  • Pour 1 tbsp castor oil, 1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil and 2 tsp canola oil into a bottle with a lid. Seal the bottle tightly and shake the mixture to blend the oils together.
  • Soak a cotton with the oil and wipe gently across your lash line from the inside corner of the eye to the outside corner. Do not rub the cotton ball back and forth as that could cause eye irritation.
  • Gently peel away the false eyelashes from your eyelids. If the lashes are difficult to remove, gently dab at them with the oil-soaked cotton ball until they can be easily removed.
After doing this wipe with the oil going in one direction till the last of the glue has been removed. Once removed you can proceed to cleanse your face.

Cold weather lip tip!

The cooler it gets the more we have to pay attention to our lips as it is prone to becoming easily chapped and dried out as the temperature drops. There are steps we can take to prevent our lips from drying out  such as keeping hydrated, wearing sunscreen and exfoliating your lips. In addition to these tips here are a few you can consider.

  • Avoid licking or chewing your lips. It may be a habit, but it dries lips and retards the healing of any cracks. Saliva also turns lips darker and dryer. In harsh winter weather conditions, it will chap your lips in a hurry. If you have the urge to lick or chew, apply lip balm instead.
  • Be cautious with long-lasting lipsticks. Those wear-long and matte brands may be convenient, but they can also be drying. Apply lip balm before applying the lipstick, or simply choose a more moisturizing formula during the cold weather months.

Keep your lippies protected!

Classic Cat Eye!

This image gives us a great breakdown of the stages of a classic cat eye. To get it precise without smudging you can start out with a liquid liner drawing it as close to the lash line. Then building up the line to a thickness that you like. After doing this, draw a wing starting at the bottom end of the outer corner of the eye then you will connect it with the top of the liner and start to fill in the liner. If your liner is not water proof or if you decide to use a pencil you can set it with black eye shadow.

From the Runway to the Streets!

From the Runway...

The makeup and hair featured on the runways of Paris and Milan project the future trends of the upcoming season. Sometimes the makeup may come off looking too much and not wearable for most of us. It is for us to translate the trends into wearable looks that we can all rock. This image shows us a fab turquoise or teal makeup which though fab on the runway is a bit too much for an everyday makeup look. This look with a few tweaks here and there is pretty wearable take a peek at the image below.

To the Streets...

For a more wearable look you can cut down on the bright pop of color below the eye area and  instead you can opt to use brown or black eye liner smudged to give a smokey effect. The same goes for your other colors such as purples or whatever color you might fancy.
So have fun with your makeup translations from the runway to the streets.

Metallic Mouths!

I must admit that wearing a colorful metallic mouth might be a bit too daring for me, but for those of you  who are on the adventurous side can give it a try. It's all about confidence and owning the look. There are more products on the market for vibrant lips but if you want to DIY I have just the thing to get you ready for Spring.

Metallic Lip Mix

  • Apply eyelid primer to lips like you would a lip gloss
  • Wait about 30 seconds for it to dry
  • Choose a vibrant eye shadow preferably "metallic" color
  • Apply eye shadow to lips as you would your eyes. Applying about 3 layers does the trick.
Have fun creating your budget friendly metallic mouth!

Bridal Beauty trends 2012

Jason Wu - The Bold Look

If you love all things Spring and want to incorporate bright colors moving away from traditional deep or earth tones why not try a bold lip. If you love orange lips but are hesitant to go full blast you can select a fab red lipstick that is orange tinged. If you want to get creative you can customize by mixing the two colors to get it your liking.

Derek Lam - Mettalics

Derek Lam's inspiration shows a twist to the natural look where metallics are infused to give the face more definition. It still retains its classiness with his use of earth and gold tones.

To achieve this look, Lam’s makeup artists focused on creating a striking eye using shades of yellow, copper and green. Eyelashes and lips were given the metallic treatment (think copper mascara, pale gold lip gloss) and pink blush graced the models’ enviable cheekbones.

So have fun incorporating the looks of spring into your special day

Bohemian Rock look!

If you are a lover of the fresh bohemian hippy chic, you will love the updated bohemian rocker look which adds a touch of glitter to give it that rocker vibe. The gold glitter keeps the look earthy and the pop of blue color is in tune with Spring.

How To: Glitter Tips!

To apply glitter with minimal mess, I would say your best bet is either to mix the glitter with your cream based shadow or press it on after you have applied your primer or foundation so it will adhere better to your skin.

News Flash

Betsy Johnson Spring 2012

According to Essence Magazine, Spring 2012 will be all about being bold from statement lips, bronzer and thick 80's brows... So we better get with it!

Lip Details!

What separates an average makeup look from an extraordinary one comes down to the details. Flawless application requires special attention to overlooked areas such as the inner corners of the lip.To keep the illusion and the flow of the lip color especially a bold one is to carry the lipstick to the corners of the mouth which gives the lips a more finished and professionally done look. To get it detailed it is best to use a lip brush which is small enough to get into the corners without the mess.

Egyptian Makeup Trends!

Elizabeth Taylor in "Cleopatra"

Elizabeth Taylor with or without makeup was indeed a stunner and so we can say that with existing trends that the present and the future tends to borrow from the past with a bit of tweaking here and there.

Get the Look!

  • Take an eyeliner pencil and extend it as far out from the corner of your eye as you want, then take liquid liner and teace the line, fatter near the eye and skinny at the end, the pencil acts as a guideline.
  • The key is getting the elongated line and from there adding the eye shadow colors that you like.
  • You could do a smokey or colored eye shadow look. Colors such as gold and turquoise would be fab.

Violent Lip Tats !

The newest craze to hit our lips are the violent lip tattoos, which feature different creative lip colors from stripes to zebra like looks that can be tattooed on to your lips. These lip designs have been worn by celebs like Khloe Kardashian. See if you fancy yourself some violent lips!

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
A pair of Scissors, a Mirror, Cotton Balls, Water… and Violent Lips.
** The BIGGEST difference between applying the Glitteratti Collection, and the existing line of Violent Lips Appliqués is that you must measure and apply the lips with your mouth open to a relaxed "Oh" shape.
Let's get started!
POP: Remove the appliqué out of it’s stencil.
MEASURE: Line the center of the top lip appliqué to your cupid and measure the width and depth of your lip with your mouth open to a wide “Ahh” Shape. Make sure to stay outside your water line.
CUT: Cut to your measurements using the horizontal and vertical guides on the back of the lips.
PEEL: Peel the plastic film off the appliqué.
APPLY: Put the sticky side of the appliqué on your lips, making sure to keep your mouth in the wide “Ahh” shape. Soak the paper backing in water using your cotton ball until the paper starts to slide off.
SEAL: Seal and smooth the appliqués with a generous amount of water using your cotton swab.
** Wait 5 minutes for your lips to fully dry before you apply any product over your lips, eat or drink

Charting your Look!

There are many details that go into the preparations of a wedding from the menu, decor and let's not forget your fab dress and even your flawless makeup. Most if not every future bride knows  that trial runs are the order of the day. You have to decide which hair style to wear and which makeup colors  you like to get the whole feel of the look you want put together.
On the day of your trial whether it will be a makeup artist, a friend or even if you are doing your makeup yourself, you will be trying out colors and you might end up with a makeup up look that you want for the day.As you go through the trial just take notes of the colors you used on the chart featured below. On the day of the wedding  you will not have the time to remember exactly what colors you used during your trial makeup. So to make things easier you can use a chart to make notes as to which colors you want whether it is on the yes or the lips etc.

Crease Prevention!

Creased shadows are like major oil slicks that can ruin a perfectly great makeup look and we makeup lovers do whatever it takes to prevent this occurrence. If you are sometimes faced with these makeup dilemmas here are some steps you can take to keep the crease monster at bay.

Powder it !
After applying concealer or foundation on your lids apply powder to lock the product. The foundation acts as a barrier preventing the oil from breaking through to the eye shadow once applied.
Prime it!
You can use a good primer on your lids by creating a smooth surface which helps your shadow to be more intense and last longer.
Dry Surface!
Always make sure the skin is completely dry before applying any kind of shadow.
Cream Shadow Tip!
Cream shadows have a tendency to crease the most, so for best results, tap on a translucent powder or eye shadow in a similar color over the cream. Or consider going with a cream-to-powder formula instead.
No eye cream:  When it comes to keeping shadow crease-free, keep the eye creams away. They're too heavy for delicate eyelid skin, and will only make your shadow crease and pool.

Black Out !

We all love a good "black smokey eye" which looks so great especially worn on a hot night out. There are so many products on the market which help to prime or to set to get that black eye just right. If you are not in the mood to spend big bucks on the newest makeup solution  you can try this great affordable product that will help to give you the smokey eye you desire.

Gel Liner

The Wet'n Wild creme liner in black is a great buy for a round 4 bucks it packs alot of punch as it is extremely black and once applied it stays put. To achieve that black out look you can start out by coloring your eye with the liner as you would with a marker and then applying black shadow to intensify the look. I would suggest starting with the eyes first before foundation which leave you with a fresher look without the possibility of fall out.

The Evolution!

This is what happens behind the scenes of ad campaigns.

Lash Skilz !

Lashes are like candy you can't resist and you can't get enough. If the mascara is not working for you why not try your hand at applying indiviual lashes which you can get in varying lengths.

Lash Basics:

  • Remember not to place long lashes too close to the inner corner of the eye. You can begin from the outer corner of the eye working inwards.
  • If you are going to use lashes for the whole lash-line, you may want to buy two sizes of lashes. A smaller size for the inner eye and a medium size for the outer part of the eye.
  • Apply directly where the roots of the lashes meet the skin. You want to place them into the natural lash close to the roots. Rather than onto the skin and not exactly on the eyelid but at the base of the lashes. It is as simple as laying them on.

Ginnifer Goodwin - Style Star!

Edgy!

The other day while watching the "Regis and Kelly Show" they had Ginnifer Goodwin as a guest and I fell in love with her whole look and wanted to share it with you.
I absolutely adore Ginnifer Goodwin's total look from her pixie cut which can easily be edgy or more  refined on any given day. In this look Ginnifer keeps it fresh using pink tones which work wonderful for her porcelain skin. She keeps it current with liner which draws attention to her eyes, paying careful attention to accentuate her bottom lashes while keeping her lower lash line liner free. A great fresh tip is to use brown liner or shadow on the bottom for a more open eye look.
